Picnic provides opportunity for fellowship
The annual Horsemen's Picnic at Churchill Downs was the best ever in 2009! The picnic drew approximately 600 horsemen, horsewomen, and family members. Our chaplaincy again provided 11 prizes for the children, as well as sno-cones, popcorn, cotton candy, face painting, and a Noah's Ark bounce house -- this year with a water option added! Our cake walk allowed over 250 people to enjoy taking home a cake!!!
Members of local churches also responded to a ministry request and donated dozens of baked goods for the event. All in all, about 20 different churches helped with the picnic in one way or the other.
Dozens of baked goods were donated by area churches.
"None of these blessings would have been possible without the assistance of our local church and individual supporters," said Chaplain Ken Boehm,, who coordinates the ministry at Churchill. "You brought smiles to many faces as you can see by the photos."
"We are blessed to have such wonderful, generous, and active contributors," said Chaplain Ken. "From the bottom of our hearts (and stomachs!) THANK YOU for making a difference by sharing the love of Christ with our racing community."
In addition to delicious food, the picnic had music, games for the children and door prizes. The winners of the children's door prizes were: Dallana Orantes, Jeylin Cano, Juan Kevin, Lucy Castro, Austin Aguilar, Cesar Sandra, Jeaneis Orantes, Bryan Juares, Rosie Gonzalez, Aaron Velazquez and Lorena Maldonado.
